Brew publishes this comparison. We reviewed the linked product documentation on September 28, 2026; this is a documentation comparison, not a claim of hands-on testing of every platform. Check current plan limits on the vendor's pricing page.

Your app sends password resets and receipts through Resend, and the setup has needed no attention since a developer wired it up. Now the marketer wants an onboarding sequence and a monthly newsletter, and asks whether those can run in Resend too or whether the team needs another tool.

For a while, adding marketing automation to Resend meant adding a second vendor. That changed in 2026. Resend has marketing broadcasts, and in April it launched [Automations](https://resend.com/blog/introducing-automations): event-triggered sequences with delays, wait-for-event steps, branching and an AI builder.

So first check whether Resend already covers what you need. This guide is for teams that prefer another design workflow, need more SaaS lifecycle features built in, or want channels beyond email.

## Key takeaways

- Resend now covers basic marketing automation. Its marketing plan is free up to 1,000 contacts and includes 10,000 automation runs a month.
- Compare the design workflow as well as sending. Resend supports visual templates and React Email; Brew generates layouts from brand context and prompts.
- Brew generates and edits on-brand emails visually and by prompt. Loops has a visual editor for SaaS. Sequenzy adds Stripe-aware sequences. Customer.io and Brevo add other channels.
- You can keep Resend for transactional email and run marketing elsewhere. Use separate sending domains if you do.

## What Resend covers today

We checked Resend's pages on September 28, 2026. Its [pricing](https://resend.com/pricing) is split in two:

- Transactional: free up to 3,000 emails a month (100 a day). Pro starts at $20 a month for 50,000 emails, and Scale plans go up from there.
- Marketing: free up to 1,000 contacts. Pro Marketing runs from $40 to $650 a month for 5,000 to 150,000 contacts, with no cap on emails sent.

Automations use your Resend Templates for each email step. You can design them with drag and drop or describe them in plain language. Resend's [agent tooling](https://resend.com/agents) exposes automations, broadcasts and templates through its MCP server, CLI and API.

If your team is engineering-led and a code-first template workflow suits you, this may be all you need.

## The alternatives at a glance

| Tool | Main reason to choose it | Transactional too? | Entry pricing |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Brew | Marketers and agents create on-brand emails and automations without writing templates | Yes, through transactional-purpose domains | Free plan; Growth $99/mo |
| Loops | Visual editor and SaaS-focused workflows in one simple product | Yes, included on paid plans | Free up to 1,000 newest contacts |
| Sequenzy | Stripe-derived lifecycle events and stop conditions | Yes, API and SMTP | Free up to 2,500 emails/mo |
| Customer.io | Email plus SMS, push and in-app, with a deep data model | Yes | Priced by profiles; startup program for new customers |
| Brevo | Email, SMS, WhatsApp and CRM from one vendor at a low entry price | Yes, on every plan | Free up to 300 emails/day |

## Brew

[Brew](/) is built around generating emails. It reads your website and brand files into an editable brand document, then produces full emails from a prompt: layout, copy and images. You edit them visually on a canvas or by prompt. You build automations the same way. You describe the trigger, emails and waits, and Brew assembles the flow. You can also remix published example sequences from its [flows gallery](/browse/flows).

Developers create a trigger, publish an automation, and fire it from your backend with `POST /v1/automations/triggers/{triggerEventId}/fire`. Brew has a TypeScript SDK, a CLI, typed payload contracts and an [MCP server](/mcp). Transactional mail runs through a domain with a transactional sending purpose, as the [transactional emails guide](/blog/transactional-emails) explains. It can also import existing HTML, MJML or React Email, so you can start from your current Resend templates instead of rewriting them.

Resend documents inbound email routing for agents, and Brew's documentation has no inbound feature. Brew also has no SMS. Pricing is by AI credits and sends per plan.

## Loops

[Loops](https://loops.so/) gives SaaS teams a visual editor with themes and components, event-triggered workflows, and transactional email in one account. Its Stripe integration covers more than twenty events, and it can send Supabase Auth email through an auth hook or SMTP. Paid plans are priced by subscribed contacts with unlimited sends, and transactional recipients do not count as contacts unless they also get marketing.

Choose it if you want a simpler all-in-one SaaS email tool that marketers can edit.

## Sequenzy

[Sequenzy](https://www.sequenzy.com/) writes sequences from your website and ties lifecycle logic to billing. Its [Stripe integration](https://docs.sequenzy.com/integrations/stripe) emits events like `saas.trial_will_end` and adds MRR and LTV to contacts. Each sequence has one stop condition checked before every step. It sends transactional email by API or SMTP, and pricing is per email with unlimited contacts.

Choose it if trial and subscription stages drive most of your email.

## Customer.io

[Customer.io](https://customer.io/pricing) is the option with the most depth. It covers email, SMS, push and in-app messages, segments on event history, and objects such as workspaces. It sends transactional messages through its API, and its [MCP server](https://docs.customer.io/ai/mcp/get-started/) starts read-only. It takes more setup than Resend.

## Brevo

Brevo includes transactional features on every plan: REST API, SMTP and webhooks. It also has marketing campaigns, automation, SMS, WhatsApp and a CRM. Its [Free plan](https://help.brevo.com/hc/en-us/articles/208580669-FAQs-What-are-the-limits-of-the-Free-plan) allows 300 sends a day and lets up to 2,000 contacts enter active automations.

Choose it if you want many channels from one vendor at a low starting price.

## Keeping Resend for transactional email

You can keep Resend for receipts and password resets and add a marketing platform on top. That is a reasonable setup if you keep the two apart:

- Use a separate sending domain or subdomain for each platform, so a campaign complaint does not affect your receipts. [Yahoo recommends](https://senders.yahooinc.com/best-practices/) separating marketing and transactional mail for high-volume senders.
- Decide which platform owns each contact's marketing consent. Unsubscribes in one tool do not reach the other on their own.
- Keep promotions out of transactional templates. Under the [FTC's primary-purpose test](https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/resources/can-spam-act-compliance-guide-business), a receipt whose subject line or body is mainly promotional becomes a commercial email.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does Resend have marketing automation?

Yes. Automations became generally available in April 2026, with event triggers, delays, wait-for-event steps and branching. Broadcasts cover one-off campaigns.

### Can I move my React Email templates?

Brew's `import_email` accepts React Email JSX as well as HTML and MJML, so you can bring existing templates in and edit them there.

### Which alternative is cheapest?

It depends on contacts versus sends. Resend Marketing and Loops charge by contacts. Sequenzy charges per email. Brevo's free tier is limited per day. Brew charges by plan, in AI credits and sends. Model your own numbers on each pricing page.

### Is it bad to run two email vendors?

No, as long as each has its own domain, a clear list of message types it owns, and a shared rule for unsubscribes.

## Next step

If your blocker is who designs the emails, [start Brew with your domain](/) and ask for your next campaign. Then compare the time it took with your last template.
