Ask a Midi ClinicianDr. Kathleen Jordan, MD Midi's Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Kathleen Jordan

Q: “I’m having perimenopause symptoms, but my doctor told me I don’t need hormones because my levels are normal—is she right?”

We hear this all the time. Many patients come to Midi after being told they’re not candidates for hormonal care because their labs look “normal.” But during perimenopause, hormone tests don’t tell the whole story.

That’s because hormones fluctuate day to day, even hour to hour. A single test can miss those swings and doesn’t reliably reflect how hormones affect your body.

Your symptoms are often the most important clue. If hot flashes, disrupted sleep, vaginal dryness, or other changes are affecting your life, you deserve care that takes them seriously—even if your lab results fall within the normal range.

The right treatment depends on your symptoms and health history. Hormone therapy can be effective for hot flashes and night sweats, while vaginal estrogen may be right for you if dryness or painful sex is your main concern. Nonhormonal treatments and supplements may help, too.

That’s why working with a trained clinician is so important. At Midi, every Care Plan is tailored to your symptoms, goals, and medical history — so you can get relief that’s right for you.
