July was all about making Appwrite easier to automate, connect with AI, and manage at scale. We launched a hosted remote MCP server, introduced the new Projects API, simplified CLI authentication with OAuth Device Authorization, and shipped Appwrite 1.9.6 with important improvements for self-hosted deployments.

The Appwrite MCP server is now remote

The Appwrite MCP server is now available as a hosted remote server.

Simply add one URL to your AI tool, authenticate with OAuth, and start building. No local installation, Python, uv, or API keys required. The remote server keeps the same context-efficient architecture while dramatically simplifying setup for tools like Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, VS Code, Windsurf, Zed, and more.

Introducing the Projects API

The new Projects API lets you configure and manage nearly every Appwrite project setting through the SDKs and CLI.

You can automate authentication providers, API keys, platforms, environment variables, email templates, session policies, labels, and more. Instead of clicking through the Console, you can now script, version, and reproduce complete project configurations across development, staging, and production.

OAuth Device Authorization for the Appwrite CLI

Logging into the Appwrite CLI is now much simpler.

Instead of entering credentials in the terminal, the CLI opens your browser using the OAuth 2.0 Device Authorization Flow. Review permissions, approve access, and the CLI signs in automatically. Self-hosted users can continue using the existing email and password flow unchanged.

Appwrite 1.9.6 is now available

Appwrite 1.9.6 focuses on improving reliability for self-hosted deployments following the 1.9.5 release.

The update automatically repairs missing Git provider attributes during migrations, makes migrations safe to rerun after partial failures, and improves health checks for both Appwrite containers and MongoDB.
