May’s looking resilient, and agents just got smarter. Inside: A fault tolerance demo, Postgres vs CockroachDB, and the latest on distributed data architecture for AI.

Why do multi-agent systems need memory engineering?

Multi-agent systems are smart but not always coordinated. Without shared memory, agents re-retrieve the same context, repeat operations that already happened, and quietly rack up token costs at up to 15x the rate of single-agent systems without always agreeing on what's actually true.

The fix isn't better prompting or choosing another model. It's better memory infrastructure. Join us on Tuesday, May 19 at 1PM ET / 10AM PT to see why!

How can agents recover from failures and interruptions?

In this latest episode of Big Ideas in App Architecture, David talks with Peter Kraft, co-founder of DBOS, about a new approach to durable execution. DBOS is a lightweight, database-backed library that checkpoints program state so applications can resume after crashes, upgrades, or API failures. Originating from Stanford research with Matei Zaharia and Michael Stonebraker, the idea is to make software as durable as data by storing application state in the database.

Autonomous agents behave differently from humans…

…and that difference reshapes the demands placed on your database. While PostgreSQL remains an excellent and reliable database, its single-node architecture runs counter to the core requirements of modern AI systems—concurrency, resilience, and geographic distribution. We tested Postgres against CockroachDB at agentic load to show why distributed data architecture is ideal for AI infrastructure.

Test your database’s fault tolerance

Now available in Public Preview, the new CockroachDB database fault tolerance demo lets you trigger a real availability zone (AZ) failure within your cluster. Users can observe how the system maintains availability, performance, and data consistency under disruption. (Hint: You’ll see that the database keeps running, and you can see what a real run looks like above.)
