DatoCMS Product Roundup

👋 John,

I swear I keep pushing back on the newsletter thinking I'll just wait till there's "enough" to dump on y'all, but then a few weeks pass and I'm like "OK we pushed a lot (whatever happened to the Italian stereotype 🤌), I really need to get my sh* together before it gets out of hand".

So, here's everything that we worked on in the last weeks, much of which is focused on smooooooother content operations.

We rolled out some pretty big improvements to plugin development and release workflows, grouped under a new "For developers" menu on every plugin.

If you're connected to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any other AI tool using the DatoCMS MCP, we've rolled out a few updates that should make things easier, starting with how you authenticate your AI against our MCP server.

If you've ever triggered a big static build and watched it fall flat because of rate limits, we got you. We've added jittering into the retries on the CDA client.

We also went down a dark path of bug hunting, and squished some pretty nasty ones on the Plugin SDK.

We rolled out a shiny new Broken Link Checker plugin which lets you find broken website links in records and across your DatoCMS project.

And on the topic of better content operations, personally I've been looking forward to this new Find and Replace plugin because it makes mass edits a breeeeeeze since it can find, preview, and safely replace content across DatoCMS records AND models.

Also, this isn't a challenge, but saving records with 1000s of blocks got considerably faster. Depending on the depth and the number of blocks, saving's gotten between 40%-65% faster. On that note, loading the schema of massive projects also got about 2x faster.

One of the fun rabbit holes for us this cycle was thanks to one of you mentioning how the CMS didn't render some scripts (in this case, S'gaw Karen). So we went down a deeeeep rabbit hole to improve support for less-common scripts. More on that later.

And lastly but deffo not leastly, the silent superstar of the past weeks is probably almost invisible to most of you, but we pushed a MASSIVE batch of changes to get the CMS up to WCAG 2.1 AA standards to give it a real accessibility pass.

In other non-CMS news, there's some nice updates (and a shocking realisation that even IIIII was pretty busy (whatever happened to marketing stereotypes 🤌) and managed to get a lot done).

Headless CMS and Personalization are among THE most common conversations we have with you when you're looking for a new CMS, so I wrote something up that gets into the different approaches.

Many of you (and your editors) also highlighted that plugins can sometimes get a little overwhelming and/or confusing and/or misleading and/or "what you have plugins?", so I spoke with some of you to understand why that happens, and put together The Editor's Guide to working with DatoCMS plugins.

Over the past months I was also learning a lot about website Agent/LLM-readiness, so bossman and I pushed a few changes on datocms.com to make it more LLM friendly. I found the literature and the results a little interesting, so here's a dive into how you can make your website LLM ready(er?).

On a similar note, there was some buzz again on the topic of Agentic Commerce, and it struck a nerve because I still think MOST of that is just boring old SEO and Content Structure. So here's another part-rant-part-dive into what agentic commerce needs.

And, as promised, on that S'gaw Karen topic from earlier. Some of us went down a VERY interesting rabbit hole on true localization for less-common scripts, and I think it's a pretty fascinating read if you're into the topic (or a fan of Unicode in general) - When localization means more than just EN, DE, IT, ES, FR et al.

We also went down ANOTHER rabbit hole when a customer told us their record stayed locked after hitting Save. Wut? Turns out we had a couple of really obscure bugs working in tandem (one of which was hangin out in our code base for 4 years), so we did another fascinating writeup on how those were fixed - Hunting down bugs in a trenchcoat: why some records stayed locked.

AND LASTLY, we're really happy to be supporting another edition of Hackher (this time in Rome!). Hackher's a really cool community effort to bring more women into programming, and we're big fans of what they've been doing. Check them out!

And to wrap things up, as usual, join me in giving our brand new partners a big 👋 as we welcome Huge Inc. 🇬🇧, Sitewerk AG 🇨🇭, Sundeck Studio 🇦🇺, and NoMaDe 🇮🇹 into the DatoCMS Partner Ecosystem.

PS: If you're an agency, what're you waiting for? Join the partner network so our bearded wizard Matteo 🧙 can guide you though implementing projects better.

That's it for now. I'll see you in the next one.

✌️
