🤖 From prompt to performance test: creating scripts with AI

Most engineers already know the scenario they want to test—the challenge is turning that idea into a well-designed performance test.

With the new k6 Script Authoring experience in Grafana Assistant, you can describe the scenario you want to test in natural language and get a production-ready k6 script in return. The result? Less time spent on setup and more time focused on application performance and reliability.

With k6 Script Authoring, you can:

Ground tests in real-world data: Use observability data from Grafana Cloud to generate tests that better reflect actual application traffic and behavior.

Generate tests from existing sources: In addition to using natural language, you can build scripts using OpenAPI specifications, repository code, or service telemetry.

Get production-ready output: Generated scripts include structured JavaScript complete with checks, thresholds, and proper URL grouping.

Analyze tests in context: Optional hooks for Grafana Cloud Traces and Grafana Cloud Profiles let you correlate performance test results alongside other telemetry data.

k6 Script Authoring requires Grafana Assistant to be enabled in your Grafana Cloud instance.

To generate a script from natural language, you can try a prompt like: “Generate a load test for quickpizza.grafana.com. Test the GET api/quotes endpoint with 5 virtual users for 5 minutes.”
