Available for Your Team: Anomaly Detection is in Beta

Anomaly Detection establishes a statistical baseline of normal behavior for each of your services, then notifies you when something deviates from it. No thresholds to define, no queries to write, nothing to configure. Honeycomb identifies which of your services have enough steady traffic to model reliably, onboards them automatically, and starts learning from the OpenTelemetry data you already send.

When an anomaly starts, Honeycomb notifies you in Slack, and you can move straight into an investigation with Canvas and BubbleUp to find out why. You’ll also receive a notification when the anomaly ends.

The beta covers two signals:

Error rate, so you know when a service starts failing more than it usually does

Presence, so you know when a service that normally reports data goes silent

There's no setup required. Log in to Honeycomb to choose the services you want monitored.

API reference - Anomaly Detection is also available via our public API, this doc explains it in more detail.

During the Beta, Keep in Mind:

Error rate and presence are the first two signals. Request rate and latency detection are on the roadmap with timelines to be announced at GA

Services need roughly seven days of continuous traffic to be eligible for monitoring. Services that don't qualify still stay visible, so you always know your coverage

Detection works best on stable, non-seasonal traffic. Seasonality-aware anomaly detection is coming and timelines will be announced at GA

Anomaly Detection currently models trace and event data at the service level. Metrics datasets aren't supported yet
