Shadowing: How Real-Time Data Replication Supports Operational Resilience

Hi there,

Before shadowing, replicating streams across clusters usually meant MirrorMaker2 and the headaches that come with it. The biggest one is offsets. If offsets are translated instead of preserved, consumers on the other side don’t pick up where they left off.

Shadowing in Redpanda Streaming automatically replicates your topics and partitions, schema registry, and ACLs. It also preserves offsets and consumer groups.

This Tuesday, Peter and Trevor explain how it works, when to choose active-active or active-passive, and whether you need active-active at all.
