Appwrite
Hi John,
Welcome to Day 2 of Init. Today, we’re bringing native PostgreSQL to Appwrite.
You can now create a native PostgreSQL database directly inside your Appwrite project, with dedicated compute and direct access to the PostgreSQL engine. Every Pro account also gets $10 in database compute credits each month, making the first database free of cost.
Connect with your preferred ORM, existing drivers, and the PostgreSQL tools your team already uses.
Read the announcement
PostgreSQL, without an abstraction layer
Your database gets its own hostname, credentials, and secure connection.
That means tools like Prisma, Drizzle, Django, Rails, Spring Boot, EF Core, GORM, and more can connect directly without Appwrite-specific configuration.
Appwrite manages the infrastructure
You get the PostgreSQL engine while Appwrite takes care of the operational work around it.
That includes backups, database branches, read replicas, upgradable compute specifications, storage autoscaling, connection pooling, built-in observability, and network security.
Keep the workflows you already use
Run migrations your way, use your preferred ORM, and install extensions like PostGIS and pgvector without changing how your team works.
If you’re ready to get started, check out the PostgreSQL docs for everything you need to connect your database and start building.
Join our PostgreSQL launch live on YouTube
The Appwrite team will go live at 1:30 PM PT to demonstrate how you can provision a PostgreSQL database on Appwrite and build a real-world application with it.
You can join us on YouTube, interact with fellow Appwrite developers, and get a chance to win an Appwriter keyboard.
Join the livestream
Have questions about PostgreSQL on Appwrite? We’re hosting a Reddit AMA with our engineers today after the livestream, where you can ask about native PostgreSQL, today’s launch, and how it all works.
Init is the start of something new. Follow everything happening throughout the week at appwrite.io/init.
