USPS is changing how it calculates dimensional weight starting July 12. Two updates affect Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage, and Parcel Select: the DIM divisor drops from 166 to 139, and all package dimensions will round up to the nearest whole inch. This means that larger, lighter packages will cost more to ship. If you're shipping bigger boxes, it's worth checking your dimensions. Trimming even one inch can change how DIM weight gets calculated and lower your costs.
New USPS HazMat non-compliance fee. Starting July 12, USPS will charge a $50 fee when a shipment is flagged as non-compliant for hazardous materials. Two things can trigger it: shipping HazMat (batteries, aerosols, flammables) without declaring it on your label, or using a reused box that has old HazMat markings on the outside, even if what's inside isn't hazardous. To declare HazMat in Shippo, check "Shipment contains Hazardous materials" in your package options when creating a label. And if you reuse boxes, make sure any old HazMat markings are covered or removed before you ship. Learn more
