Materialize
We've been working closely with our customers and community to support context engineering workloads reliably at scale and to make it easier to build on Materialize with coding agents.
Highlights from this month's releases include a new autoscaling capability and a streamlined agent development and operating experience. You'll find the full details in the release notes, but here are some of my favorite updates.
Performance and scalability
Autoscaling to speed up hydration (public preview). Clusters can now automatically spin up and down burst replicas to hydrate faster, so you can recover from incidents sooner and speed up iteration cycles.
Asynchronous cluster reconfiguration. ALTER CLUSTER commands now run in the background, so a reconfiguration continues even if your session closes.
Freshness targets for queries (public preview). The new Bounded Staleness isolation level lets you set a freshness target on queries, so if data freshness drops below the target, a query returns an error instead of blocking.
Faster queries, more objects. Materialize now handles 13% more queries per second under heavy concurrent write load, and self-managed deployments now support 2x higher object limits.
Sources and sinks
Iceberg sinks on Google Cloud (public preview). Iceberg sinks can now write to GCP-managed Iceberg tables, landing results in your Google Cloud lakehouse.
AWS Glue Schema Registry. Kafka sources and sinks can now use the AWS Glue Schema Registry for Avro, so you can manage your schemas end to end on AWS.
Kafka source versioning. You can now do blue-green cutovers on Kafka sources to pick up upstream schema changes without downtime.
PostgreSQL physical replica support. Materialize can now replicate from a PostgreSQL hot standby, moving replication load off the primary.
Agent experience
OAuth sign-in for MCP servers. The agent and developer MCP servers now support browser-based OAuth, so you can securely connect coding agents with a single command.
Developer MCP query tool. The developer MCP server can now run SELECT, SHOW, and EXPLAIN against user objects, such as views and tables, so coding agents can debug against real data and query plans.
Operations
SCIM role mapping (private preview). Materialize Cloud now supports SCIM, so user access is granted and revoked automatically as people join, switch teams, or leave your organization.

We'll also be at Ai4 in Las Vegas this month, where our Field CTO Seth Wiesman is giving a talk on building interactive vector pipelines just using SQL. Come find us at booth #1055!
