This month I wanted to focus on all the things we're doing to further improve reliability at scale.
So let's get right to it.
What's new:
1. We recently shipped the Constraint API. This internal change extracts Inngest's flow control logic into a dedicated, independently scalable service to lower latency, broaden compatibility, and create a cleaner foundation for future infrastructure without changing a single line of user code.
2. We rebuilt the cron scheduler on durable, self-healing queues to improve reliability of scheduling during peak times like at the hour or for high frequency crons.
3. We're currently rolling out improved concurrency limits for connect
workers, which will lay the groundwork for new types of flow control features like function-level concurrency.
What else has shipped?
Run Insights launched: Query your events and runs with SQL directly from the dashboard.
The Traces UI got a major upgrade: Zoom into specific time ranges on long-running functions, a new Headers tab for inspecting response headers, and more data to pinpoint slowdowns.
What's worth reading?
- I surveyed 130 engineers to learn which infrastructure choices actually reduce the burden of reliability.
- I studied ~50k Inngest power users to find what features fast-scaling teams use most, and when.
- My pal Mitch wrote a piece on how to build a self-improving agent that doesn't cheat. It was pretty popular in the TLDR newsletter.
- Plus: We have new AI Patterns! Build an Agent Tool Loop | Human-in-the-loop | Sub-agent delegation
👋 That's all for now! See you back here next month.
