A dated Q4 2026 email plan from Prime Big Deal Days to New Year, with carrier cutoffs, Gmail and Yahoo bulk rules, and an October volume ramp.

A holiday email calendar is a dated plan of what you send, to whom, and on which day between early October and the first week of January. Retail events, holidays and carrier cutoffs are fixed. You decide how fast to raise volume and what runs as automation.
2026 quirks: Thanksgiving is November 26, so Cyber Monday is November 30. Hanukkah starts Friday, December 4, so its gifts ship in November. Christmas is a Friday, moving the UK Boxing Day bank holiday to Monday, December 28.
These come from companies that sell data, so treat them as context. Adobe's forecast, published September 28, expects $275.1 billion in US online sales from November 1 to December 31, up 6.7%. The daily numbers matter more:
| Period | Adobe forecast (US online) | Change vs 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| October 2026 (whole month) | $95.8 billion | +8% |
| Prime Big Deal Days, Oct 6 to 7 | $9.9 billion | +9.2% |
| Thanksgiving, Nov 26 | $6.9 billion | +8.5% |
| Black Friday, Nov 27 | $12.9 billion | +9.2% |
| Cyber Monday, Nov 30 | $15.1 billion | +6.2% |
| Cyber Week, Nov 26 to 30 | $47.5 billion | +7.4% |
Adobe expects discounts of up to 14% in early November, 21% before Thanksgiving, 30% in Cyber Week, and 10 to 15% through December, with 57.4% of season spend on mobile (63% on Thanksgiving Day).
Deloitte projects November through January e-commerce sales of $316.1 billion to $318.9 billion, up 7.5% to 8.4%, against 4.0% to 4.8% for retail overall.
The Mastercard Economics Institute forecasts US retail sales excluding autos and gas up 5.5% from November 1 to December 24, online up 11%. Its 2025 finding is more useful: over 35% of in-store spending in jewelry, handbags, department stores and cosmetics between November 22 and December 25 came in the final week. Late December still sells.
The NRF had not released its 2026 forecast by October 1. Last year's came out on November 6.

Date sources: Amazon for Prime Big Deal Days, OPM for US federal holidays, the SBA for Small Business Saturday, Hebcal for Hanukkah, and GOV.UK for UK bank holidays. Green Monday (informal) is the second Monday of December, shared with Free Shipping Day. Prime Big Deal Days runs in 22 countries, including the UK, Germany, France, Spain and Italy, though Amazon says dates may vary by country. Black Friday and Cyber Monday keep US dates in Europe.
A carrier date is the last drop-off day for expected delivery. Subtract handling time to get your last order date, and email before that.
| Carrier and service | Last day to send (2026) | Delivery target |
|---|---|---|
| USPS Ground Advantage (lower 48) | Thu, Dec 17 | Before Dec 25 |
| USPS First-Class Mail (lower 48) | Thu, Dec 17 | Before Dec 25 |
| USPS Priority Mail (lower 48) | Fri, Dec 18 | Before Dec 25 |
| USPS Priority Mail Express (lower 48) | Sat, Dec 19 | Before Dec 25 |
| USPS Ground Advantage (Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, territories) | Wed, Dec 16 | Before Dec 25 |
| FedEx Ground Economy | Tue, Dec 15 | By Dec 24 |
| FedEx Express Saver | Mon, Dec 21 | By Dec 24 |
| FedEx 2Day and 2Day AM | Tue, Dec 22 | By Dec 24 |
| FedEx First, Priority and Standard Overnight | Wed, Dec 23 | By Dec 24 |
USPS dates are from its September 22 announcement, with international and military tables due on its holiday shipping page in mid-October. FedEx dates are from its 2026 last-days-to-ship schedule, where Ground and Home Delivery run from December 17 (5-day transit) to December 23 (1-day).
UPS had not posted year-end ship-by dates by October 1, so recheck its holiday schedule page in October. In the UK, Royal Mail said its last posting dates were "coming soon." Don't promise last year's.
Then:
The classic holiday mistake: mail 40,000 people a week all year, then 250,000 three times in four days. Google's email sender guidelines are blunt about it. "Avoid introducing sudden volume spikes if you do not have a history of sending large volumes. For example, immediately doubling previously sent volumes suddenly could result in rate limiting or reputation drops." Google also says to start with engaged users and cut volume on bounces or deferrals.
| Provider | Threshold | What they require |
|---|---|---|
| Gmail | About 5,000 messages a day to personal Gmail accounts, counted across the primary domain | SPF, DKIM, DMARC, one-click unsubscribe, unsubscribes honored in 48 hours, spam rate below 0.1% and never 0.3% |
| Yahoo | Bulk senders | SPF, DKIM, DMARC, one-click List-Unsubscribe, unsubscribes honored in 2 days, spam rate below 0.3% |
| Outlook.com | More than 5,000 messages a day | SPF and DKIM pass, DMARC at least p=none aligned with SPF or DKIM. Per Microsoft's April 2025 update, failing mail gets 550 5.7.515 from May 5, 2025 |

Two Q4 traps. Gmail's FAQ counts 2,500 messages from solarmora.com plus 2,500 from promotions.solarmora.com as a bulk sender, so a holiday subdomain resets nothing. And the spam rate is daily, so one sloppy send to an old segment can push Black Friday past 0.3%. Watch Gmail Postmaster Tools. Our deliverability guide explains bounce and deferral responses.
Yahoo also says to keep bulk and transactional mail on separate IPs, so a reputation dip doesn't delay order confirmations. What still applies when an agent sends your email covers the split.
Say Cyber Monday goes to 190,000 subscribers and your weekly send to the 60,000 who opened or clicked in 90 days. We'd close that gap over four to six weeks, no step more than about 50% above the previous week's largest send:
| Week | Audience | Approximate size |
|---|---|---|
| Oct 5 | Engaged in last 90 days | 60,000 |
| Oct 19 | Engaged in last 120 days | 85,000 |
| Nov 2 | Engaged in last 180 days | 120,000 |
| Nov 9 | Engaged in last 270 days | 160,000 |
| Nov 16 | Full subscribed list, minus contacts with no engagement in 12 months | 190,000 |
| Nov 26 to 30 | Same as Nov 16 | 190,000 |
These are example numbers, not a benchmark. After each step, watch bounces, Gmail spam rate, and deferrals (4xx responses) from any provider. If one moves, hold for a week.
We leave contacts with no opens or clicks in 12 months out of Cyber Week. They bring more complaint and spam-trap risk than revenue. If you must, send one re-permission email in early October. Email segmentation covers building the tiers.
Dated offers are one-off sends. Emails that run all season should be automations.
| Build as | Why | |
|---|---|---|
| Welcome series | Automation | A Nov 20 signup needs a welcome, not just the Black Friday blast |
| Abandoned cart or checkout | Automation | More carts in Q4. Make sure it exits on order |
| Order confirmation and shipping | Automation (transactional) | Slow or missing updates become support tickets |
| Post-purchase and gift card redemption | Automation | Gift buyers and recipients need different emails |
| Gift guides, sale launches, cutoff reminders | One-off sends | Tied to a date and a specific offer |
| Last day to order | One-off send | Set by your cutoff, excludes recent buyers |
Freeze automations after October 31. Mid-Cyber Week edits are how a cart email ends up offering 10% off on top of a 30% sitewide sale. First check:
Our abandoned cart guide covers exit conditions.
By October 31. Suppress hard bounces, pick the dormant segment that sits out Cyber Week, check SPF, DKIM, DMARC and one-click unsubscribe on every sending domain, and run the first two ramp steps.
By November 20. Finish the ramp so your peak audience got an email in the ten days before Thanksgiving. Schedule every QA'd Cyber Week email and agree who can pause a send.
During Cyber Week. Six straight days, Thanksgiving through Giving Tuesday. One main email a day to the full audience, extras to narrow segments. Drop 48-hour buyers from the next promo and check bounces and spam rate each morning.
From December 20. Rewrite anything that promises delivery, and say plainly when orders arrive after Christmas.
Brew handles most of this plan.
smartSend), uses UTC history rather than time zones, and can't be combined with gradual send. See how it picks the hour.create_audience_from_events over MCP or the API). One snapshot covers at most 90 days, so build two (say days 1 to 90 and 91 to 120), then create one saved audience that ORs their two filters, which GET /v1/audiences/{id} returns. Each contact appears once. Snapshots freeze when created, so rebuild them right before each send. If you keep a last-activity date on contacts, filtering it with after is simpler. See the audience docs. Two things to plan around: subject line tests are manual comparisons between sends, not automatic-winner A/B splits, and each contact has one subscription state, with no seasonal "fewer emails" preference center.
The first week of October. Prime Big Deal Days on October 6 and 7 opens the season, and October is when to start ramping if Cyber Week sends will be much bigger than usual.
Black Friday is November 27, 2026, the day after Thanksgiving. Cyber Monday is November 30 and Giving Tuesday is December 1. Adobe forecasts Cyber Monday as the season's biggest US online shopping day at $15.1 billion.
For lower 48 delivery before December 25, USPS recommends December 17 for Ground Advantage and First-Class Mail, December 18 for Priority Mail and December 19 for Priority Mail Express. FedEx Express Saver runs to December 21 and overnight to December 23, for delivery by December 24. UPS had not published 2026 ship-by dates by October 1.
There is no safe number. What matters is how far volume jumps against your history and how recipients react. Google warns that suddenly doubling volume can cause rate limiting, so ramp over the previous four to six weeks and keep your Gmail spam rate under 0.1%.
Hanukkah begins at sundown on Friday, December 4, 2026, and ends at nightfall on Saturday, December 12. Gifts need to arrive by December 4, so send gift emails in late November.
